How to Derby

  • Register Team (one driver and up to five additional team members)
  • Purchase Kit
  • Follow @UtahSoapBoxDerby on Instagram for inspiration, instructions, tutorials and get psyched.
  • Pick-up cart kit (driver MUST attend to sign liability waiver)
  • Assemble cart
  • Decorate, modify (within reason) - think speed, agility, swagger....
  • Attend two cart safety inspections (October)
  • Race!
  • WIN!!

Drivers must be at least 18 years old and have a helmet.

$200.00 registration cost Includes: one basic cart kit (chassis, wheels, steering column, plywood), swag bag for your team (up to six members), and six meal tickets at the hospitality tent.

  • The driver of the cart MUST register for the entire team, sign and agree to all waivers. If, for any reason, the registered driver is unable to attend the event on the 24th of October, the replacement driver must contact the Office of Student Experience at [email protected] on or before October 16th.
  • Every team MUST include at least one current student from the University of Utah.
  • Faculty / Staff registrants MUST ensure they have their manager’s approval to participate.
